I cab is completely gutted now 100%. When I rebuilt my truck eleven year ago, I left the original firewall in. The carpet that I bought was very long. I don't know if it was supposed to cover the gas tank or what so I cut it off at the tank and used the left over to cover the firewall. I think it looked really good.
My question is, Now that I pulled out the mouse pee infested firewall pad, what should I replace it with besides the $200 firewall from LMC?
The picture below shows the way the carpet is and I will put it back.
that is all that has ever been made to cover the firewall to date. it needs heat and sound protection . maybe some of those foil things that protect against heat and sound too. then cover it with carpet.
i probably wont do that myself. i will thinki up something when the time comes.
My 72 just has long carpet going up the firewall. No pad under it or anything. I parted a 70 f100 that hadthe same thiung factory. I have no problems with that. The carpet is glued at the top to keep it from falling down. I have no heat or noise problems. But, I may just be used to it!? Noone else has complained that rode with me. Just my .
as fordman mentioned above sound-vibration dampening material works well. it is a laborsum material to work with but with some time and a good amount of patience its a doable job, and you can add as many layers as you want here's a few shots of mine

i haven't crossed that bridge yet but i want carpet, im sure i'll have to find someone thats real good at the trade to do a custom job to get it to look the way i want it to for now and until body and paints done im gonna drive it like it is.
Depending on what type of insulation you have you might want to go to the hardware store and get some aluminum tape. Use it to cover the seams. I have seen some cars that the sticky part has come out of the seams and gets all over. the aluminum tape keeps this from happening.

I have been working on this one for that last month or so off and on and I finally finished it. I made this section out of three sections of aluminum and then covered it a matching vinyl. The image is a little blown out, but hopefully you get the idea. Let me know if you have any other questions.
OK so I took some more pics of this thing outside of the truck. It needs some holes for a couple items going out to the firewall, but its pretty much finished. I took some pics of the front, back and details. Its made of three sections of aluminum which were derived from an intial carboard mockup. That was the most time consuming aspect which was tweeking to my liking. I pop riveted the middle section which as a tapered shape and wraps around that center hump area on the floor. After all was cut and trimmed, I glued on the red vynl. Hope this explains it.
