Re: Theft devices
So true my 69 F350 without Power Steering and a Stick was a beast to drive. For any younger person. I had a really beautiful assistant and lover for a while and the guys on the job couldn't drive it but she at 110 pounds would jump in and drive to the parts store.

Re: Theft devices
Looking at the NPD catalog on page 27 they have a brake or clutch lock. Looks like the old club but locks the brake or clutch pedal. If they see that maybe they would just go to the next target.

No they won't move on the average street punk can drop the brake lock in 20 seconds, They use the same club technology.

Re: Theft devices
My ex father in-law told me JC Whitney had some kind of lever you hooked to your brake lines and you could hide it under your dash. When you parked your vehicle you pull this lever, all the brakes locked up and only you knew enough to push this button or switch back in to release the brakes. Has anybody ever heard of this? He talked like it was from the 60's or 70's and it was used for emergency brakes. He's not with us anymore to ask him. He said it was a great theft deterrant because if they started it up they weren't going anywhere.

Re: Theft devices
The best is do something with the ignition wire and figure a way to lock the hood down so they can't get in there to jumper stuff... Here is a nice looking unit for newer type stuff, I don't know if they have anything for old stuff... http://www.neverstolen.com/index.html

Re: Theft devices
Here we go anyone can make that.
Aircraft plugs first 16 pin male and panel mount female. You have I wire on each item you disable that comes to the plug you send out one wire to return the power to the device. 2 to the 16th power is 65536 possible wiring connections.. Say you wire ignition to Pin one in and the male cap jumpers it to pin 10 out. Start goes to pin 3 in and pin 4 out, coil interrupt 7 in and 5 out Bat relay to 16 in and 8 out..
Remove the cap and imagine how much time to wire the missing cap. Coil interrupt goes to the coil input + Ignition interrupt is under the dash and just opens up the wire were it comes out of the switch. Bat relay is an add on and is made to look like a stereo relay or Light rack relay and actually removes the main battery wire from the loop. Last Start is also dropped under the dash. On the dash side put 16 wires and as they say armored metal flex to to the firewall. Send all 16 wires out the harness to the 2 places they have to go and to 12 to where they confuse the issue and wrap the wires in tape along with the original harness.
You could use all 16 wires if you had other things you could interrupt to confuse the issue. You could just ground the coil output like a tach wire through a resistor and that would stop it. You could wire the unused wires to a horn so when they jump the wrong wires bang instant horn or alarm.
I have seen the connector they use it is used for High End stereo systems. They wrapped it in pretty plastic.

Re: Theft devices
I've got a chain bolted to the hood latch bolt on the hood running down in front of the radiator support and looped around the frame rail with a padlock. That's after some low life thief got my Die Hard gold. I also installed a tilt column with an ignition switch. I put a second starter solenoid in and both the original key and the one on the column have to be in the start position simultaneously to engage the starter. I also have an Jacobs Ignition box with a switch (behind the grill) that allows the engine to sputter but not start when in anti-theft mode.

Re: Theft devices
just talked to a Ravelco rep iN DFW area. $399 to install and they come to you. He said yes it can be installed on any vehicle and has a lifetime install and unit warranty. Said takes about 2 hrs for install. Not a bad price for unit, install and warranty.

Re: Theft devices
I got tired of undoing the chain. The tilt column is nice but never slowed a thief down. But that second key and solenoid will stop the guys for longer than they have especially if the second solenoid is not close to the original.Fordnatic wrote:I've got a chain bolted to the hood latch bolt on the hood running down in front of the radiator support and looped around the frame rail with a padlock. If they get under the hood they can get the truck. Period I don't need any interior wire. The solenoid trick is great because it confuses the issue in a not easy to find solution. Hooking a wire on the negative side of the coil and taking it up the harness to the interior and grounding it at the dash with a switch will really slow them down. The truck will not fire even if they jumper under the hood. If you have a tach that is even better you just splice into that wire under the dash and ground it through the switch.

Re: Theft devices
So for locking down the hood is a chain, steel cable or hood lock pins the best approach. What's hardest to defeat. I know from experience a steel cable is hell to cut with anything.

Re: Theft devices
I know I'm gonna put a chain and lock on my hood since I'll have two chrome big rig horns and a compressor. I can just see someone at school getting word that I have that stuf and trying to rip it off. The olny thing they may be abel to rip stuff of of is the tank in the bed but it'll be welded in the bed or enless I find somewhere else to put it not so noticable. I've already had my cowbell stolen off my truck I had it hanging from a D-ring type thing and first day I put it that way I come out to leave for my welding class GONE but its werid I had it hanging form a little chain just held on by wire and no one touched it Man I hate High School!
