Between my son and I we have both dents & bumps.
And I was wondering if anybody has put a bump dash in a dent.
I have always liked the bumps dash, and hated the dents dash.
I have the skills and time, just wondered if it had been done?
and yes I know about the bajillion spot welds.

Re: Bump dash in a Dent?
i seen it in a dash on ebay once. i didnt save th epic of it or anything. im sorry. i emailed the guy on beay and i think he said it wasnt hard to him. i was cutting up a cab the other day and i almost tried to get the dash out for fun just to see if i coul ddo it but i gave up before i started. i only had a sawzall to do the cutting. and i couldn't find a way to get the sawzall blade in between the cowl and dash. another way i could have done it was to just cut the cowl off of the dash and then grind off the extra metal to get down to just the dash spot welds.

Taking the dash out of a unsaveable cab. So plasma, cutting wheels, sawzall, grinder. going to use them all

Re: Bump dash in a Dent?
To remove the bumpside dash all you really need is a spot-weld drill bit....and a LOT of time. I removed a dash once just to see how involved it would be, and it took an entire afternoon. I didn't use spot-weld bit, since I wasn't planning on re-using the entire dash panel.
Dimensionally, they're the same. However, as I understand it, the dentside dashes are bolted in, whereas the bumpside dashes are completely welded in. If this is the case, then it might be more work to do, since the bumpside dash also acts as part of the windshield channel, and with a bolt-in dash like the dentside has, the front side of the dash couldn't act as a part of the windshield channel.
Here's a picture I took after I removed the bumpside dash:

You'll have to do a check to see how the front of the dentside dash is connected. If things are like I think they are, you'd have to remove the front lip of the bumpside dash, and weld some tabs onto it to allow you to bolt it to the front dentside firewall. But I'm just guessing here. Please report back, as I'd really like this info as well. If you could provide a couple pics showing the dentside dash connections, that would be great!![Thumbs up ](./images/smilies/icon_thumright.gif)

Re: Bump dash in a Dent?
Bump dash in a dent is actually pretty easy. Dents use a bolt in dash that screws in across the top. Just trim the dent dash to match and then the pad hides the seam. the only issue is making sure you measure from the area where the bump dash is welded on originally so you will know how much to trim. I have not done one in a while but 20 years ago I did a couple of them. Last time I was going to do it I just used an F700 cab I had because they already have a bump dash but then I had to modify the column mount. Hawkrod

Re: Bump dash in a Dent?
Didn't they use bump dashes in the dent F500s+? That is where I got my F-500 type instrument panel for my pickup, out of a 78 f-800. I can't remember if the dash pad was the same but I remember the rest of the metal looked the same as a bump.

Re: Bump dash in a Dent?
yes in the f500 and up they were the bump style for a longer period than 67-72 don't quote me but i think they were bumps up until 77 or so.

Re: Bump dash in a Dent?
I pulled a bump dash pad from a 76 dent F-600 a couple years ago. The 76 also had the bump's behind the seat fuel tank.
