Dash Topper from NPD

Post by customcamper »

Has any one used the Dash topper from NPD over there old one. Mine has a crack in the dash and a crack in the speaker vent, just wondering how they worked?

Its says thermoformed polymer, I have the dash pad off and would like to do it now....they say you do not have to take the dash off...it just glues on top of the old one.

So did you glue this directly to the metal dash, or to the old dash pad.

I want to fully understand what you said you did. You wedged 2x4's between the seat and the pad to push it tight against the metal dash. And also you put weights on top to hold it down nice and tight.

How much was this pad in LMC? Did it have the speaker and defrost vents? If there was one complaint, what would it be?

You glue to the old pad. Clean the old pad the best you can with windex or some other ammonia based cleaner. Also take a razor blade and trim the cracks at an angle so the won't show impressions under your new cover.

Yes the boards and bricks are to hold it snug and down so the silicone can set up. Mine did come with holes for defrost vents and speaker. If you get a good snug fit you can't tell it from the orig dash pad other than touch.
Cost was $99.00 and you can get them in colors to match your int.
Hope this helps. Lmc has mostly good quality parts and some low quality but i would recommend this cover. It fit well and there shipping is fast.

Thanks for your imput...I have the interior gutted out. The windshield is also out . Before I paint the inside of the cab, I might put the old dash back on and glue the topper. Then I can brace and weight with out worring about the new paint. Then install the windshield and new dash later. Thanks again!!

Another thought......I build custom long bows and do all my clamping with plastic wrap on a roll. I bet a guy could gule it to the old dash off the truck and wrap it with plastic wrap, work out any wrinkles and let it sit for a couple days!!

i don't think plastic wrap would give a good enough hold for it. that plastic cap i slike a hard abs kind of plastic. its not that flexable.it s more ridged. i think. a large towel and a cyinder block would work better for holding it down i would think. if the glass was out.

Yea i was mainly talkihg about the ease of install with the dash pad being out of the truck. It will need to be clamped, secured etc.. some how for about 24hrs so the silicone can cure. just make sure it is snug and straight before you secure for drying.
