Metal dash?
I saw someone that had a metal dash, with no pad on it? I liked the look of it, is that what was under your dash pad? Or did you mold a piece of sheet metal or buy it?

this is what they look like under the stock pad.
Re: Metal dash?
Did you just unbolt it, and weld the holes up, sand, primer, and paint?

Re: Metal dash?
Yep, you just unbolt it.
If you don't want to paint the dash or weld in or around there you could cut a few peices of steel, paint and then "glue" (JB weld) them from under the dash.
It wouldn't be totaly smooth, but you could knock them back out and then re-install the dash again if you wanted to.
Just a thought...

Re: Metal dash?
I did this on a 71 cab. It looked awesome and causes people to scratch their heads. The coolest thing is, I dug grilles out of the battered dash pad. They are rolled on the edges and have screw holes on the edges to fit the holes in the steel dash. I had them powder coated silver and installed them. I was told by a friend of mine that the grilles and the dash panel tooling were designed and produced before the dash pad was required. When it became required, or wanted, they molded the grilles into the pad. I don't know if it's true or not, but it sounds logical and saved me a bunch of work. This is the only picture of the matal dash I have left.

Re: Metal dash?
i think hte dot required dash padding in 65 or 66. i am unsure of the year. but it was before our trucks were made.

Re: Metal dash?
I thought it was 66. But that would make sense because mid year 66, they would have had their tooling mostly done. I was just stoked because I didn't have to buy a pad, or make grilles.
