Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
I am have been lurking around here for quite a while and just wondered how rare is the factory behind the seat toolbox. my 70 sport custom was ordered from the factory with the tank in the frame and a factory plastic lockable box behind the seat where the fuel tank normally goes. before you ask there never was and never will be a fuel tank filler hole in my cab.

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
can you take some pics of this please? I am very interested to see what this looks like! Thanks
BTW: I have never heard of this option my self. I would imagine it would be quite rare.

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
That's an easy question...
The behind the seat box probably one of the most elusive options that was available on our trucks.
I have only seen one, and know of one another one, so I'd say it's pretty rare.

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
I would also think the behind-the-seat toolbox option couldn't be offered on the 71's and '72's because the seat backs were bolted to the seat bottoms and would not tilt forward in those years to comply with some federal law...

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
You could easily make them tilt forward by simply unbolting the two bolts behind the seat that held them stationary, which is what I did with my '72...I'm no authority, but that was about when all two-door cars came out with that little lever that you had to push down to unlock the seat back so you could get into the back seat...I figured for pickups, since there was no back seat that needed accessing, rather than retool the whole seat, Ford went the easy route of bolting the seatback stationary to comply with the federal laws...

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
The pictures that keith has on his gallery view is the exact same box that I have. as well as the fuel tank delete for the truck cab. mine originally came with the fuel tank filler coming through the bed as well however I have put in a fuel tank door out of a slightly later model, so that it looks like it was done on purpose. cool.

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
The seat in the '71 I parted out had latch levers that you push down or pull up ( I can't remember now) on each side.

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
I have never seen a seat in our trucks that didn't fold forward. Mine does, as well as evry one I have seen in the yards around here. There is a small tab you pull up on, on both rear sides of the seat.

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
My 72 was bolted so it wouldn't fold forward. I have always wanted it to fold forward but never really examined it. Two torq head bolts later and now I have a folding seat. Man seems like everytime I get on here I learn something new. Thanks Todd ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Re: Factory Behind Seat Toolbox
Hmmm, My seat in my 71' tilts & its unmolested. I have never heard that before. Come to think of it I dont think I have ever seen a bump seat back that wouldnt tilt forward. Interesting.
