I have a big electric fan in my 71. I'm running a nice controller on it and it works great. The only problem I have is when the truck is hot (like after running up to sonic or something), and I try to start it, the fan tries to come on the same time the engine is trying to turn the hot starter. So, it has a tough time sending enough amps to the starter to kick her off easy. I have the 12v feed to my controller right now to a wire that gets power in both run and start. What is a wire that I can use to supply power to the controller that is hot only in run and NOT start.
Here is the wiring diagram.
thanks

Re: 12V in run, not start
Using that diagram you will want to connect to any wire on the ACCY only wire, I would use 297 the Black/Green striped wire, but anything on that circuit will work, radio, heater, wipers, etc... (I'm assuming you are using a relay and just using this as activation for the relay) . This wire is hot in Run and ACCY. The only wires that are hot in Start are the Coil and the wire to the starter; it disengages the ACCY/RUN wires. The fan will come on in ACCY to but that is the only way to do it without setting up a delay timer or something…

Perfect. yes, I'm running a big relay, so no real juice will be flowing through my connection.
Also, behind the dash isn't there already a place to hook up stuff like this? Isn't there a three plug spot where the wipers get power or something like that?
thanks

Yep, it should be the same Black/Green striped wire going to the 3 way plug.
