Gun Rack

Post by Merlin68F100 »

I am thinking I need a gun rack for cosmetic reasons. Does anyone have a model they prefer? I am not real keen on the plastic ones that wedge into the windoe seal. Just doesnt look good for the seal.

if you can even find them any more. well you probably can. maybe at a sporting goods store. i rather like the type that squeeze in between the window and seal. that way you dont have to make holes in the inner cab to mount them. i've never seen a truck with those kind of mounts leak around the window either. in shopping for racks i would look at the wieght and how good they are made. plastic unless it was heavy duty to me would be out for actually gun carring purposes.

I found one on-line last night. Its plastic but it is made for 88 and older trucks with a Billy Carter (sliding glass) rear window. Just what I will need by the time I get the shell painted and installed.
Not for a shotgun. I will hang a level, axe handel and maybe my hard hat. Any security needs I have are taken care of by the Glock.

When driving these old trucks, we already have a huge target on our backs because of our "carbon footprint". By adding a gunrack you will only have another target from the left wingers who want to jack up the price of the ammo. Oh wait a minute...., these are only a few of the reasons I love driving my 41 year old truck. I want a bumper sticker for my truck that says: My truck burns twice as much fuel as your HYBRID saves!.
The ones I have alwaus had are brown rubber covered metal that screws in to the cab. It has been a couple of trucks since I have had one, because when I go out now, 2 or 3 just doesn't cut it. If you find a good source, post it here and maybe you will start a movement!

Merlin,
I have a set of those rubber coated adjustable back window gun racks you are talking about.
Not using them, Pm me for the particulars.

go get a plastic toy rifle and put it up in there and see if you can win a law suit over it when they surround you. if they can see it. it is not considered concealed.

Actually, I was thinking about this issue. I'd be willing to bet that my trucks "carbon footprint" [I can't believe I'm actually using this bullsh!t term] is smaller than that of most hybrids - after all, my truck only drives about 2000 miles each year, whereas most people with hybrids are driving much further than that.

Not only because the truck gets driven less, but think about how much plastic and other composites were produced to make one hybrid.

I like recycling. I recycle old trucks and old brass.

I just get PO'ed when I hear people talking about "carbon footprint" because most of the ones that are supposedly so concerned about that are jetting around in their Lear, own multiple residences, and get delivered to "work" in a limo. Then they have their business managers buy "carbon offsets" to make up for it. If that ain't the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard I don't know what is. BS by the tandem dump truck load. If anyone makes that bumper sticker I want one.

I've been looking around as well for a gun rack. Anyone know if those plastic window seal ones will fit on my old '66 Bronco?

And I have a solution for concealing your long guns when you park your bump. When I had my seat redone in my '72, I had the trimmer add a flap type pouch sewn into the seat back that sort of just hangs back there. It runs the length of the seat, and you can slide the rifle or shotgun in it and just lay the seat back in its normal position. Out of sight, out of mind, not as likely to end up in the local pawn shop :-)
