Another turn signal wiring question
Alright well I need help with the wiring on my turn signal switch. My truck is a 67 but one or two of the wires are a different color than the 67 wiring diagram on here. The replacement switch of course doesnt match color wise. Im not sure what year truck it came off, possibly 68-70. The wire locations on the old switch arent the same so its pretty useless to me. Ive looked at a few wiring diagrams and the way I read them they arent much help. The wires that are the same color are obvious, but maybe someone has an idea about the other ones.
The first picture is the truck wiring, the second picture is the replacement switch wiring, the third is whats left of the old switch

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
I checked the wires for power after hooking up the switch and there wasnt any. There is one fuse on the block that doesnt have power but I think its for something else. Is there something that has to ground in order for the blinkers to work? The hazard switch has been missing for years, does that have to be there? Ive been studying the wiring diagrams but I dont see any ground for that circuit.

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
There is no ground needed for the switch to work.
The solid "light blue" or "Blue" wire is the only power feed wire and it should be hot with the key on only. It is fused in the fuse panel as "B/U lamp, turn signal, W/S washer"... the color of the wire out of the fuse panel should be black/red striped wire and it makes its way to the turn signal flasher and then to the TSS. Here is a diagram that I colored this wire path to show it easier.

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
Only to get the hazards to work... it wont have any effect on the turn signals or brake lights, unless one of the wires is out of the connector for it and shorting on something.fordman wrote:you need the hazard switch.

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
I got the signals to work, it was a bum flasher. The signals are blinking kind of fast, Im not sure why, maybe the switch isnt wired right? both sides/front and back work though

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
a heavy duty flasher or hazard flasher in the trun signal circut will make them blink faster than a trun signal flasher will.

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
Yeah I used the flasher from the emergency blinker temporarily and also tried a heavy duty one I had laying around, Fordman, your wire color post was pretty right on, thanx for posting it.

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
Im still having problems with the turn signals blinking too fast. Ive tried different flashers and re-wiring the switch wires but there is no change. I cant figure it out, I know the brake lights and the hazards dont work but Im not sure if they have anything to do with it. What else besides the flashers would make the signals blink fast? By fast I mean when on some vehicles that have one bulb go out and it blinks faster, its about the same.

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
it could be related to the no brake light thing.

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
Check all the bulbs (front & rear) and make sure they are the 1157 bulb and that they are making good contact in the sockets. Blinking real fast is from to much load being put on the flasher... You could also have a short somewhere (the wires to the flasher shorting), does it do this worse on one side then the other or the same either way?

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
They are about the same but there is a slight fluctuation/erratic-ness to the flashing on either side. (sorry for the made up word)

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
I'm thinking that the problem is probably related to the Brake light problem (second would be the emergency flasher wiring). you might look into the brake light problem and see if it doesn't lead to problem with the turn signals. The brake lights and rear turn lights use the same wire / circuit so if something is shorted out for the brake light wiring then it will cause problems with the turn signals.
