I would check to make sure there isn't some kind of short by checking the resistance through the bulbs, then checking the resistance between the turn signal switch and ground. You have to do a little math, but the resistance you see for the total circuit should be pretty easy to add up. This is the formula.
1/total resistance = 1/resistance across the front bulb + 1/resistance across the back bulb.
Because I know that it is confusing to write things like that (not because I wish to insult your intelligence) here is what I would do to calculate it.
Open google.
Cut and paste this:
1/(1/whatever the resistance of the rear bulb is+1/whatever the resistance of the front bulb is)
into the search bar. Replace the words with the actual measured resistance of the signal bulbs from one side of the car, and press "enter." This will cause the search engine to spit out the answer below the search bar where the search listings normally come up (this is a sweet little feature of google and it can handle some pretty hairy equations if you type things in carefully).
Another thing that curiosity might require me to do in your situation is swap the flasher box with one from a truck that works right just to make sure it isn't a bum part that someone sold you... If anything, a modern flasher in our old trucks would produce a slower blink (I would think, because there are only two bulbs on our trucks which means that there is a lot more resistance to the thermal flasher than with a new truck that has side marker lights and stuff).
Good luck, don't let the smoke out...

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
I fixed the blinkers, It was a flasher problem. I bought new ones from the Ford dealer and I guess they werent good. I got some taiwan ones from the junk yard and now the blinkers work normally.

Man I hate getting bad “New” parts… It seems to be more and more of a common assurance these days.
Glad you got it figured out...

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
Just curious… but if you follow the wires in the truck back under the dash more, is there a connector like this (see pictures below) or did it get cut off? (It almost looks like it was cut off on the TSS harness side)oddball wrote:Alright well I need help with the wiring on my turn signal switch. My truck is a 67 but one or two of the wires are a different color than the 67 wiring diagram on here. The replacement switch of course doesnt match color wise. Im not sure what year truck it came off, possibly 68-70. The wire locations on the old switch arent the same so its pretty useless to me. Ive looked at a few wiring diagrams and the way I read them they arent much help. The wires that are the same color are obvious, but maybe someone has an idea about the other ones.
The first picture is the truck wiring, the second picture is the replacement switch wiring, the third is whats left of the old switch
If it is still there then when you get a new switch it will show up with the pins on the end so you will use a pin removal tool (see picture) and remove the old wires out of the TSS connector side and insert the new wire from the new connector in its place. You have to remove the connector to get it through the column is why they send it this way...

Re: Another turn signal wiring question
Yes the two plugs are there. When I got the junkyard switch I cut the wires so I had plenty of wire to use if need be.
