Differential Question

Post by dcbullet »

Hi:

I found a complete Ford 9-inch rear end at the pick-n-pull. When I turn the driver's side drum, the driveshaft turns. When I turn the passenger's side drum, the driveshaft does not turn.

Is this normal? :hmm:

I don't know much about diffs.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds normal for a open differential. Does the other side turn backwards?

"Are you gonna make it all 220?"
"Yeah 220, 221, whatever it takes."

Well I'm no expert too but I would think either the driveshaft would turn or the other wheel would turn backwards.

Trying to visualize what the spider gears are doing only makes my head hurt. :hmm:

Better get some other responses.
