Hey guys, I need some help with both my trucks. I have a 70 F100 and a 70 F250. Both trucks are having the same issue which is really weird. The fuel gauge in both trucks do not work. I cleaned the ground connections on both trucks. I even replaced the sending unit on the F100. I'm not really very good with meters. What would be the next to check? Keeping track of mileage on paper really sucks. If it makes a difference, the F250 has dual tanks. Thanks

Why is it that the trucks are always the best running vehicles in the family?

Re: Fuel gauge problem
Ok. I played with the F250 today and I think the ground is good from the sending unit to the back wall of the cab. I replaced the 2A fuse in the fuse box just to make sure that was good. I tried a test light on the orange wire with the ignition in the on position and got nothing. Could that mean the IPVR could be bad? Is there a way to test it? Thanks for the help.

Re: Fuel gauge problem
Do the other gauges work? oil, temp... If so then the IPVR is ok and it is either the gauge itself or the wiring on the cluster that is bad. could be a dirty connection where the Instrument cluster plugs in.
For the truck with 2 tanks the switch that switches the gauge from one tank to the other could be bad.

Re: Fuel gauge problem
Hey Thunderfoot. The oil gauge is just an idiot light and comes on when the ignition is in the on position. The temp gauge does work as far as I know. I will pull the instrument panel out tomorrow and mess with it. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks

Re: Fuel gauge problem
Ok. Yesterday I pulled the instrument panel and checked out the circuit board and all looks good. I then checked from the insrument panel connector to the dual tank switch. All seems good. Then checked the wiring from each tank to the dual tank switch. All seems good. I took a q-tip and rubbing alcohol and cleaned all the connectors. Now my main reads 1/2 a tank and my auxiliary reads empty which I think should be about right. I going to put some gas in it today and see what the gauge says for each tank. Being unemployed, I have to entertain myself somehow. I still have to work on the F100.
