Firewall pad

How much stuff do you have to take off to replace it? Anyone use one of the re-pop plastic ones?

I got mine from NPD. Its a pain to do! Its better off to put the pad on when you have evey thing off the firewall even the steering column needs to be pulled however I did not pull mine, I just had to cut my pad so the column woud fit + you can't see where i cut it so it really don't matter that much. it was 100% Motherpucker.
The truck was dirty when I took the Photo but gives ya an idea.

There is also another thread where someone replaced the kick panels with carpet which is what my firewall was done with. It turned out very nice and the upholstery shop removed a minimal amount to install it. I like the idea with kick panels and will have mine done the same way.

I got mine from NPD also. Did the same install as 71fordcustom, cut for the column instead of removing. But I removed everthing else from the fire wall, painted it, rebuilt the heater, painted the brake and emergency brake, etc. I think it is a nice pad from NPD.

Is the repop plasic a hard or soft, flexible type plasic? it's impossible to tell in the pics.

BTW, (OT) 1971fordcustom, I was in your neck of the woods this weekend, in Harrison and Yellville. Sorry I didn't say hello, beautiful area though! I saw lots of old bumps in the area.

The one from NPD is ABS about 1/8" thick, actually fairly stiff. Has insulation glued to it. The fit on mine was good, I did not have to trim any edges to get it to fit.

cool thanks everyone. I am going to put in a new colum so I will wait untill I get that ready befor I get one.I do, however, like the idea of carpet over it. hmm what to do...

in some of the better models of trucks they put carpet over the regular firewall cover. to make it a more flashy look inside for the driver.

I also got mine from npd, I already had everything stripped out of the cab so install wasnt too bad, heater was a pain. I did not cut mine above the column, took a bit of work to get it in and get the seal bolted up underneath it.
