Seat replacment

Post by theskytoucher »

Well my 4 year search for a replacement seat for my 68 f-100 has drawn to a close. A guy from work gave me a set of seats out of a super duty ford plus a brand new rear bench seat out of a super duty ford, well i decided i would try to mount the new seat into my 68. and it is as close to a bolt in installation as i think you could ever ask for. All the measurement are exactly the same between the seats, the width the depth even down to the distance between the floor brackets, and even more exact were the mounting hole for the brackets are in exactly the right spot the only thing that need to happen is the holes on the seat are tapped so they had to be drilled out once that was done it just bolted right in!! Just thought i would share my discovery with all of you!!

do you guys see this. its not that big of a deal to put different seats in your truck. just choose what you like and go for it.

Are you useing super duty buckets or bench? I've got a set of super duty buckets in the front of my crew and the matching bench in the rear. The front is still not right, they sit about 2" too high, the rear bench pretty much fell into place. I'm wondering how you mated buckets to stock brackets, if we're talking about front buckets here

I am talking about the back bench seat going as a front seat into the bumpside!! And i used the stock bumpside brackets and everything lined up perfectly.

OK, I am totally at the edge of my seat on this! :woohoo:

could you please post some more info, and a picture if possible. This would be a huge help for me, and hopefully others.
Thank you very much!

All super duty's will work (99-09) all the back seats bolt in the same!! All the info there is to give is pull the rear bench seat out of a super duty unbolt the brakets drill out the tapped holes the brackets bolted to and install bumpside brakets to those holes bolt new seat into old truck!! Easy as that!

That looks so good, and I can't believe it just drops right in! Quick question though, is that style from a extended cab superduty, or a crewcab superduty, or are they the same?

That looks awesome! Thanks for the details. As a bonus most rear seats get very little use, so the foam should be in better condition. I've all ready started a search for one. :hd:
Thanks amigo! A cyber beer to you

I can tell that is out of a crew cab and back seat. A super cab is real small and proabably wouldn't fit since they are 2 seperate pieces, seat and seat back. I really like this idea and think I am going to keep an eye out. A back seat like my superduty folds 60/40 and has a fold down armrest/cupholder in the seatback.

I do have a complaint though. Since 05+ models put a folding cargo metal shelf that goes under the rear bench, it takes away from the comfort, My back seat is a little firm for my taste on long trips because the foam is thinner due to the making room for that metal shelf. The 03/04 didn't have that cargo tray and I think they have more cushion for the seat and the fold down armrest/cupholder.

Finally I did see someone who was selling their F-250 in the classified thread. They had put King Ranch style rear bench seat in his truck. It looked good with that cow hide leather!!

I'm parting out an 05 crew and I bet I've looked @ that rear seat a thousand times thinking it would be nice if it would look decent in the bump! I just didn't want to fool with having to lower one so the back didn't set to high or such nonsense. Never even tried it, didn't want to get disappointed.

THANKS for the info!!!!!! And more importantly, the pics! I'd have read the post and thought "yah, but looks like crud".

That seat's coming out tomorrow and getting the cover pulled for a recover.

Not sure of the superduty door latch handles, but mine are from a Ford Econoline Van. The 80's vans have them on all doors. They are chrome and identical to ours. Sme newer ones have them on the back doors if they are work series vans. I believe they are black plastic. Just my :2cents: hope it helps.

Well, sadly my seats are toast in the 05 (didn't hurt to hope). This was a flood truck so chances weren't that good but now that I know, I will be on the lookout. Thanks again for the info!
