question on instrument panel

Post by towtruckerfour »

When I went through the instrument panel on my 70 F250, the panel matched the wiring diagram. When I looked at the instrument panel on my 70 F100, nothing matched as far as I could tell. I tried following circuits and they didn't seem to match. I didn't think there would be much of a difference. Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks for the help

there are two master diagrams for the 70 wiring. one is for dummy lights in the cluster and the other is for guages in t he cluster. now maybe just maybe you have a harness that doesn't follow the colors. i had that in my 67. i ended up pulling that harness and am going to replace it with another one. because i thought it was messed up. i am unsure what its problem is or was. i still have it . and i looked at it the other day. and it still looks wierd to me. ddi that do it for you? or are the wires not lining up still in the two diagrams?

Thanks fordman. That does make sense since my F100 has gauges for oil and charging and my F250 has lights for those. The wiring diagram on the site and the one I have at home are the same. My f100 has 7 pins down one side and 3 at the top and one on the bottom on the other side. Here are what it looks like.

Hey Troy, which diagram/s do you have, are they the reprint ones or are they the factory ones? I seen this same thing the other day working with fordman... I found some of the factory 11x17 ones on eBay I'm thinking of getting just for my own reference but it is a good chance they could be wrong from ford...

Hey Thunderfoot. The ones I have my dad got from Ford when he worked at a dealership. He got all the diagrams for the wiring throughout the truck. My F250 followed the diagrams so I'm guessing they are for warning lights. They are 11x17 in size. It showed 6 pins on each side and my F100 was different so I gave up on it. Funny thing is after I pulled the panel out and put it back in, the gauges worked. Go figure. I can make copies and mail them to you if you want. Let me know.

Troy, I'd like to take a look at those one of these days. I'm sure we will meet up sometime here this spring or summer, I'll try to remember to have you bring them along for a looksy. :) I'll be at the swap meet at Firebird here next month if you happen to come over for it, or we'll have to put together a Meet and Greet here this summer sometime.

On the instrument cluster; that type of connector is kind of prone to not making the best contact and corrodes over easy. Putting a light coat of dielectric grease on it might help. :)
