Gas Tanks

Post by MadMaxetc »

I want to put a new tank in my 67 but I don't want it in the cab.

I would like it under the frame but don't want to relocate the support for the mustang tank.

I could weld one up...OR...I could lay one up.

What do you guys think about a fiber glas tank? I could design a nice one in CATIA and make the molds out of foam. Then just kay it up and bond it together.

I have not realy looked, but I have not seen any in the yards here.

If you find one let me know. I want to put the filler into the bed too.

Here's an option if you don't mind a little modifacation. A racing fuel cell.

I did a fuel cell too, but I have not cut a fill hole yet or added a sending unit. I should clean my truck before I take pictures...I swear everything is new..

This 20 gallon Poly tank came on 73-77 F250 Highboys & Super Camper Specials (they had the narrower frame like ours).

Image

Fits between the frame rails, sits in a metal SKID PLATE type pan (for support & protection) & if you grab all the brackets it goes in pretty easy.
....Also uses a FORD sending unit!

I've mounted it level with the bottom of my frame for clearance since I raised the bed floor. Otherwise it would hang down that much.
Fill will be in the side of the bed for me.....Could come up through the floor or even inside on the bed wall?... :hmm:

Personally I'd rather have a custom fuel cell like these other guys have, but the tank was only $50.00 at the wrecking yard. Fuel cells cost a bit more.

This link talks about it a bit:
