converting a 73 p/s column to work with a 70 cab harness

Post by 69rangerf100 »

need some help here i just bought a 73 p/s column and and was wondering if anyone knows the correct way to wire the 70 column connection plug to the the 73 column wiring. the reason why i am asking is the 73 column harness has 9 wires on it and the 70 connector has 7 wires on it.

thanks

David

they would be for the column mounted hazard switch. some dentside columns after 75 i think had a night lite in the shifter selector pocket to see which gear you were in also. or maybe the 73 columns started with that.

the guy that i bought the column and the disk brake set up from said that it had a light on the shift indicator. so if the two wire are for the shift indicator how would i mod the wires to have the light work.

the red blue wire is power to the light socket in the housing. the other wire has something to do with the hazard switch. our hazard switches use the white red wire to them also. here are pics of a dentside column. i think this one may be from a 73 F250 ranger xlt. or it could be from a 75 or 76 dentside. i got two of them mixed up so i am unsure on the years on the two like this that i have in the corner of the bed room. this to me looks very easy to wire in to our systems.

I'm in a similar boat..

truck is a '70 with man trans. old column and any related wiring was toast.. had a sig-stat 900 in it when I got it.

new column is from a 78-79 man trans.

I would like to use the turn sig switch in the "new" column, I checked my crappy manuals and have not gotten any answers as to what wire does what.

here's a pic of what the body side of the plug looks like.. the plug on the right is from the 78-79 column, the one on the left is from a '82 A/T parts rig I have.. same plug, slight diff. in the wiring (nit-lite?), but due to a difference in the harness I was able to get a longer pigtail.

the easiest way to tell what color goes to what is to remove the steering wheel and look at which wires hook up to what on the tss. just as the picture i posted above. i have one of those columns some place but i cant get pics of it until i dig it out from under a bunch of junk.

I got it figured out..

I plan to digest my notes into something that makes sense and will post the info later.
