Sloppy stick...
Anyone find a painless (relatively ) fix for slopstick with the T18's. The pin hole in my housing is wallowed and cracked across the top and the slot in my stick pivot is worse off. Am I swapping in my 84 NP or can this be dealt with reasonablely?
Don't need re-stored,can,t wear the d*mn thing out !

Drill and grind for a bigger pin? If it is cracked you might need to find a better shift tower and lever. If the rest of the transmission is good then you can just take out the tunnel cover and swap out the whole top.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

What's your brazing (red hot soldering ;) and blacksmithing (hammering
it back into to shape while hot) skills like? I believe I'd take the lid off
and try that stuff first, then put on a "new" lid after I screwed it all up.
Hey, it's broken and only a crummy boat anchor now.
I put washers and spacers (and I don't know what all) on the bottom end
of my T18 gear shift lever to stiffen up the feel of it. Was hoping that
was all you needed. LOL :)

Re: Sloppy stick...
I had the same problem on a T18 I inherited, except where the shift pin went had cracked out to the top of the tower and the whole chunk, a triangular piece about 1 1/2 in. long was gone. There was no way it would hold a pin anymore. The corresponding slot in the shifter was wallowed out pretty bad too from all the rough treatment this poor tranny went through. I took off the top cover and with a magnet, fished out two real beat up shift pins out of the bottom and a bunch of chips and shards off the teeth I guess. It dawned on me to just drill the opposite side of the tower for the pin, easier said than done because of the shape of the shouder with the threads to screw on the cap. But I finally got through it, although a little higher up on the tower than it should be. Then I just marked where I wanted the slot directly across the shifter from the wallowed out slot.I cut that with a die grinder. A little fine tuning, and it's working alright now. I probablly should have got someone to braze it for me, but I think it will work OK. BTW, as has been said here before, a 1/4 in. drill bit shank seems to be about perfect diameter for the pin. 5/8 in. length, I have a T-98 in a slick, and it is the same.
