Seat replacment

Do these seats fold forward to get at tank or storage. I have never even looked at one just wanting to know so it can join my list of seats to look out for. Also what years have the fold down armrest and cup holders. THANKS

he's got a real good question, anyone know? Do these seats you're talking about (out of crew cab or whatever) fold forward to access behind them? I'd like to know too?

Yes the superduty bench seats from the rear of the crewcab fold foward all the way down. Also I think all years had the cup holders available in the rear seat, but it depends on trim level. I believe XLT and better have cup holders, XL does not. I know for sure 03+ had them in the back on XLT+

Just curious, where/how do you guys find yards with newer vehicles in it? Most of the yards around here have 1990 and older vehicles. Anything newer is usually not there or its for "non-public" pickins.

They are hard to find for sure. Most are bought back and hawked for the expensive stuff like the good seats and the diesel motors, ect.

They're a dismantler so it's already pulled you just have to pick it up. A little expensive but at least they have parts.

Well, not all of these superduty seats will work. I just bought one today and it doesn't fit, as far as being a drop in, I am going to have to weld in some square tubing to mount it. The seat is from a '99 to '04 crew superduty, not sure of the exact year, cause the driver's door was gone and I don't know how to tell each year apart in this body style. The mount bars are different than the ones skytoucher used. They are 52" wide and need to be 42".

I have a rear seat out of a 02 Superduty.
You must have to change the track or something so the seat will move back and forth?
Back seats dont adjust?

Yes you have to replace the tracks with the tracks from your bump seat, but what he is saying is you can't just swap tracks because the mounting holes is to wide on this seat.

Well his seat is differnt than mine, cause his bump brackets bolted right on that seat, mine are too wide. He said he just drilled out the tapped holes, mine had no tapped holes, and the rails looked different. Must not all be the same for that body style super duty. And I had to make some cross bars in between so I could mount my bump slide brackets to the seat. I will post some pics when I finish it.

1967AceStroker when you post pics can you get one of the bottom of seat so I can see how you make the mounts for your tracks in case I get that same seat and have that problem. THANKS MAN

Sure, I will put pics and a description when I finish. I tried tack welding some 2x2 square tubing I had laying around, but I cut it off cause the seat would have set too high. So I went to a friend who makes trailers and he said he would give some 1x2 square tubing, just have to wait till tuesday to pick up. I carefully took measurements off the seat when I test fitted it. And it will be welded flush up inside of the stock mount bars on the new seat.

I took a drive up to a couple of "recyclers" that specialize in pickup trucks. Subway parts, and Cordova truck wreckers. The guy at Cordova was great to work with. I showed him the pictures of Skytoucher's seat install, and he explained that the seat is pre-Superduty (or pre-'99). As the picture cuts off the part of the folding handle, he couldn't tell the year. He explained that prior to the Superduties the seat frames were almost drop in from the '60s on up, because they had a 42" wide mount. He also explained that these seats in good condition are getting hard to find. He didn't have any, but had a bunch of front and rear from '99 and up (all of which have a 52" wide mount pattern). So he showed me the differences. He said, on pre-'99 front or rear will work. After that, it's a matter of modifying the frames.
So much for the Superduty seats as being an "easy bolt in". But it's always a great day to hang out around cool truck parts
