8 track AM/FM installed!

Post by papabug71 »

I got the 8 track installed last night. Had to get creative with it tho. Im thinking its a dentside radio, cause it was too wide for my faceplate.

I had a extra faceplate laying around, so I broke out the dremmel & took a little off the sides. Turned out pretty good. If I would have had one of the little Black & Decker "mouse" sanders, I could have got the cuts alot cleaner. All & all I took off about 1/8" on each side of the faceplate.

Special thanks to marine6212 for the deal on the 8 track. Its a functional 8 track to boot. It has great FM stereo sound & the 8 track works like a charm. I bench tested it with a good set of AIWA 6x9's & it sounded awsome for an old tape deck.

Now I just need to figure out how to hide some speakers....... :hmm:

I'm Glad you like it! I knowed the AM/FM worked there were speakers hung in the cab corners and as soon as I turned the radio on it blew the left speaker   found a station and put alittle volume to it and the right speaker blew   .. I hope you enjoy the radio and it brings you many years of tunes!!

Your install came out great!

My favorite 8 track tape was Dr. Hook. Those guys were a riot! Found their "Greatest hits" on CD, and couldn't resist.
Have fun!

That turned out really good. Looks like it was original.

I had that exact radio in a '71 I had years ago. It worked great. I don't remember what year truck I took it out of. I picked up a similair 8 track I plan to install in my '69. There's nothing like Credance Clearwater on 8-track!

<------------- this freak still has a cassette adapter in his glove box so he can here music that isn't on his 8 tracks. (76 toyota) BTW. Still got my big ole zenith vinyl spinning, 8 track clunking HiFi and still listen to my 8 tracks and my vinyl......... well, not the vinyl. Bride broke the needle a few months ago and rather than taking it out to get the number or matching it up, she tossed it! Not a place near here sells needles it seems.

I remember 8 tracks. Oh the memories! Hearing another track playing between songs. Halfway through a good song....kerchunk....onto the next track midway through another song.

I have an 8-track AM/FM from an early 70s LTD somewhere I just need to locate it. Sadly I dont have an 8-track to play in it. I do have an 8-track cassette adapter to play cassettes on the 8-track, with FF and REV buttons. Yeah baby!

OK Does anybody remember the 4 track? If you do, how could you look at a tape and tell if it was 4 or 8 track?
I had a budyd with a 57 Chevy with a 45 rpm record player under the dash. You could only play it when you were parked at the A&W or Dog&Suds

A 4 track has no rubber roller inside. Should be the same as the carts I used to load when I was a part time DJ years ago. Am I close?

Bingo. The carts looked like an 8 track but they had a hole in the bottom. After you slid it in the player you had a lever you flipped that brought a drive wheel into position to feed the tape loop.

They're out there. Just go to a decent stereo repair shop or hi end stereo store (not Walmart or Bestbuy) and they can match it up. To bad about FreakyFords being thrown away.
