parking, brake, turn sig, and reverse lighting issues
apparently the only lights that seem to work on my truck is the cluster, radio, and headlights.. but the tail lights come on when i have the headlights on but when i hit the brake they dont get brighter. i fig some of my bulbs were burned out so i decided to go ahead and buy new bulbs all the way around and i still only have headlights. i know that the brake lights were working and the signal lights on my cluster were working just a couple months ago so it seems strange for everything to go out like that. someone was telling me that it could be my brake light switch i think is what it's called. its connected to the brake pedal. but i dont see how that could keep my turn signal lights and reverse lights from working. any idea's?

From your description i'd suspect the turn signal switch is the cause, though as far as i know it would not be the cause of your reverse light issue, though it certaintly would cause your brake and turn signal lights to malfunction or not work at all if it were faulty.

Re: parking, brake, turn sig, and reverse lighting issues
the reverse lights work through the neutral safety switch (nss) it could be out of adjustment dirty or bad who knows until it is checked out. the thing to do is check for where the power is going and stopping at. start at the brake light switch and see if it has power to and from it. if it has no power then the problem is before the switch. if it has power in but not out then its that switch. if it has power out then the problem is after the switch. same thing with the turn signals. check to see if power is coming out of the turn signal switch (tss) or if it is going into the tss. check the fuses and the fuse holder prongs for rust. check everything. you coul dend up buying all kinds of stuff without checking to narrow down the problem first.

I bet it is the fuse holder has some corrosion around the fuse to holder connection... Pull these 2 fuses out and clean the contacts and put them back in (check them for being blown while they are out). Here is the drawing of the fuse holder http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... epanel.jpg the 14amp fuse is the turn/backup lights/windshield washer and the 20amp is the brake and emergency lights.fordman wrote: check the fuses and the fuse holder prongs for rust.

Yea.... umm.. funny story. Here a while back I was ripping out my ac unit and I had found a wire that was rigged up to the fuse box. I didn't think much of it so I pulled it out........ well today I was chasing wires checking light switches and prongs. Soon enough I got tired so I got on here to see what you guys had posted. Guess what I'm missing out of my fuse box? The 14amp fuse. So I sat there for a sec and thought ok a fuse is used to continue a curcuit. Maybe that's what that wire was doing n my fuse box.

Ok here's the deal. I baught a flasher and an assortment pack of fuses. I put the fuses in and everything works now except the brake lights. I pulled the stoplamp switch and tested thw wire with a light test and it showed it had a good charge... does this mean I either have it installed wrong or the switch is bad?

so no power goes past the switch? i fit doesnt then the switch is bad. if it does then the fault lies past the switch. yo uwill have to trace your wires. its probably under the back of the bed or in the tail light sockets.

If you have power out of the Brake Switch, when you press the pedal, then the next place it goes is the TSS (Turn Signal Switch) then to each rear light from there.

Ok... well I got out there around 530am before i headed for work and messed with it for a little bit. I noticed that my brake lights DO work. but only while its in gear. They don't work in park(guess you dnt really need em in park) but they work in all the other gears. Is that normal? Or do I still have some kind of glitch somewhere

That is not Normal, something is messed up in the wiring somewhere. Does your truck have the stock column in it:?

Yeah, I'm wondering if you just wiggle the TSS a bit if the brake lights work/don't work...

Re: parking, brake, turn sig, and reverse lighting issues
Ok all my lights work in every gear including park now. But I have to push on the brakes pretty hard for them to come on. How would I go about adjusting the nss? Its a 67 and my dad said there's an adjustment screw on a 71 but he couldn't see where there would be one on mine. Am I on the right track here??? If so how would I go about adjusting it
