Has anyone put a CD Player in the Dash where Orig. Radio was

You can install a CD player into your truck's slanted dash by using a Metra DIN radio installation kit #99-9222 for a '75-'93 Volvo. Flip the mounting piece upside down and attach it to the bent-back ears in your dash, which will allow the stereo to sit perfectly horizontal in the dash opening.

There are quite a few threads here on the forums with folks doing this. Do a search and you can even see some pics of completed installations.

I used a stock radio bezel that I picked up for $5.00.

Using a dremel tool, I carefully cut the bezel so a universal mounting box would fit.
I drilled a couple of small holes in the bezel to use sheet metal screws to mount the box.
With that said, the install was just like any other head unit installation.
It looks really good IMO. I'll take a couple of pics if you'd like.

Here's an install with a mod with the original bezel, I did this when I was in high school a few years ago and have been wanting to get another bezel and make a tighter fit but this one looks pretty good.

i bouthg a 67 that still has the factory am radio and speaker, it looks great with all the knobs so i am leaving it in i am also adding the headliner from lmc that has a mounting place for a cd player and has four speakers built in it works great and looks awsome!

Thanks for the pics and responses... Couple of follow-ups... what dremel bit (tools) did you use to cut out your bezels... and how do you support the back end of the Stereo since the original knob posts carry most of the weight of the factory stereo. Does the weight just rest on the front plastic plate of the cd?

I don't have any support for the back of mine but it is holding pretty good so far.

I just used one of the diamond cut off disks and marked on the bezel with a sharpie.
As far as the support goes.
The metal box lookin' thing that the stereo slides into, is securely attached to the bezel with 3 screws.
If you look at the pic, there is a 3rd screw in the top middle of the bezel.
There is also a screw on each side, those 3 screws hold the box very securely to the bezel.
Once the head unit is slid in, it clicks into place and installs as a unit.
The back is held in place by a piece of plumbers tape.
Plumbers tape is a metal stripe that has holes in it, and comes in a roll. It's only a couple of bucks at any hardware store.
Besides bailin' wire and duct tape, plumbers tape is somethin' that belongs in ever tool box.
I attached one end, to one of the original speaker studs, then connected the other end to the back of the stereo.
Most stereo's already have either a stud or a threaded hole in the for that purpose.
It is very solid and doesn't bounce att all, so I don't get many skips when playing cd's.

Great looking installs, I think I'll use one of these options for my bump. But for those that want an original look, consider Tayman Electrical. I recently sent the original AM radio from my 62 Thunderbird over to him and he gutted it and retrofitted an AM/FM stereo with AUX input into the case. I'll be able to use my Ipod in the car without changing the looks of the radio. He added an LED that changes color to indicate the band, but you can opt not to have that to keep it entirely original looking.

I just got it back a couple days ago, so I haven't tested it yet, but I've heard they work well. I don't work for them, but I am a satisfied customer. http://www.taymanelectrical.com/
