Okay, everytime I try to put a Grant/APC wheel on a Ford product, I end up with the same gap betwen their stuff, and Fords stuff. I have the correct adapter, and used the deepest cover dealie, and I still end up with about a 1/2" space between the adapter, and the Ford turn signal area. Is it me or them? Did I do it backwards? Am I just stupid? (Dont answer that one, I am already in a foul mood.)

Re: Grant Steering wheel -Is it us or them?
i have never done this. but just a quick guess is about the adjustment of the center steering shaft. it can be raised up and down. there are two bolts that hold the column to the dash loosen those and slide the outer column up towards the steering wheel. that might work. if it does work don't forget to get in the eninge compartment and slide the bearing retainer lock back up to where it holds the bearign in place on the bottom of the steering column.

I dunno if this will help you, but from here: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... er#p376595
Ok I finally got my wheel fixed, I had to get a different adapter, but it works great.
Here is what I found for the Challenger wheel adapter for our trucks:
Kit # 3249 Fits 69-83 Tilt Column - is set up for two wire horn (this is the one I had)
Kit # 3285 Fits 65-77 Non-Tilt Column - is set up for one wire horn (this is the one that works)
Hopefully this will help the next person trying to install a Grant wheel!

Lots of times the wheel causes you to hit your knuckles on the signal arm. It happens on other brands too. My fix on these trucks is bend the signal arm away from the wheel. I took mine ut and bent it a little and put it back when I had the 72 column in mine.

1. You are saying that part 3514 will slide up and make up the gap?
2. I bought the 3249 because thats what was on the Grant guide for a 67 truck.
I will see if I can trade it back for the 3285. Thanks.

Kaptnkaos had this exact issue with his grant wheel... and he resolved it. If he doesn't chime in, send him a pm ![Thumbs up ](./images/smilies/icon_thumright.gif)

Re: Grant Steering wheel -Is it us or them?
Yeah... I did.
Originally, Summit sent me the wrong adaptor, and wouldn't let me return it 'cause I had installed it.
I ended up buying another one "Kit # 3285 Fits 65-77 Non-Tilt Column" the same you posted ka_jd7and1.
I stil had a a pretty good sized gap, but it was the right size.
I loosened the two bolts on the column and the clamp on the main shaft under the hood.
With those loosened, I was able to slide the column toward the steering wheel and lessen that gap.
I tightened the inside bolts first then snugged up the main shaft one
with the wrong adapter
with correct adaptor

Re: Grant Steering wheel -Is it us or them?
My 3249 kit had three "covers" in it. I was able to get the right size to match the column, but like I said, it has about a 1/2" gap between the wheel and the next part of the steering deal.. I will try sliding the column this weekend, maybe that will work. right now I dont see any way that the turn signal deal will work.
Thanks folks.
