I gotta say, that t-bird radio is nice! I like the original look and more modern convenience. Cool mod there. I guess this is nosy, but what price range does that sort of mod fall in? You don't have to answer my nosy inquiry if you don't want! Looks great regardless.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting it in. The stereo conversion was around $400, including shipping both ways (they're in Florida). I also ordered through them (they drop shipped it, so I'm sure you can get it other places) a single 6x9 speaker that has stereo speakers built in, so it fits in the original dash location without cutting up the interior. The speader was $60.Joshpow wrote:I gotta say, that t-bird radio is nice! I like the original look and more modern convenience. Cool mod there. Not bad! Especially for the people desperate to look completely original, but have nicer tunes!

Re: Has anyone put a CD Player in the Dash where Orig. Radio was
I also installed mine using the stock bezel. I cut out the hole like kapt'n said but instead of removing some material I just cut along the coners and the bent the edges out. Then I took the bezel along with the mounting box that comes with your stereo and painted them both black (my bezel needed it anyways). Now you can't even tell that I hacked up the bezel. Also like Kapt'n said you need to add the mounting bracket in the back, I found that with out it my bezel began to come away from the dash at the bottom with the weight of the stereo. The bracket however solves that problem and is an extremely simple fix.
If you don't already have a stereo buy one with USB support. Then buy a simple 16-32gb flash drive(or bigger), run the cord into the glove box and then load it up with you favorite music and then you don't have to worry about CD's. I love mine, plus with digital media there is no such thing as skipping like with CD's.

either get one with a usb port or at least an aux input if you have an mp3 player.

nIce install Tank...
The originaly player that I ut the bezel was little larger than the one now.. so it shows a little more now..
I alread have plans to replace the one I have in it now wit hone that has a usb input or mp3 aux.
Do they come with both ?
My phone has an 8 gig memory card, that can be upgraded to 16 gig.
I wuz thinkin it would be cool to have a usb in port in glove box like you suggested, but also be able to plug my phone into the system as well.
I'd actually like it go CD less... then I wouldn't even have to have them in the cab, and no skip at all.

Re: Has anyone put a CD Player in the Dash where Orig. Radio was
They do make USB and mp3 aux ports in the same unit. Mine has that but the AUX is in the back so I could run one of those to the glove box and do the same with my phone. But I figured it just as easy to do the USB and I won't have to mess with pluging it in each time I get in. Where its in the glove box, if I want to add more music I can just pop it out and throw it on my computer and transfer any music I want the plug it in and I'm good till I get sick of that music again.kaptnkaos wrote:nIce install Tank...

There are lots of options out there aside from CD's now days. I only have 1 CD in my truck (Pearl Jam Ten

I don't know why they don't just build car stereos with hard drives built into them already

because people would just pass a few cd's around and they wouldn't have to buy the music.Tank wrote:They do make USB and mp3 aux ports in the same unit. There are lots of options out there aside from CD's now days. I only have 1 CD in my truck (Pearl Jam Ten)and it is in the player. Otherwise all my CD's have been stolen by the wife and are all in her car. If you are an Ipod lover, then there are even more options. Unfortunatley I can't bring myself to buy any products that are price way more than what they are worth, so I own a Microsoft Zune which sadly isn't supported by my stereo. But after using a USB I like it better than hooking up and ipod/mp3 player, because I can permanently leave it hooked up.
I don't know why they don't just build car stereos with hard drives built into them already. So you can put in a CD and and just rip it to the hard drive and be done with it.

Re: Has anyone put a CD Player in the Dash where Orig. Radio was
I never can get my CD Player to power up when i try to install it in my 70. Does anyone else have this problem?
Re: Has anyone put a CD Player in the Dash where Orig. Radio was
Um run into the accesory tab on the fuse box, and put an inline fuse. You might of hooked to a lower power wire.
