About that Volvo radio adapter

On my 1967 F100, it was not as easy as I was thinking. The 67 "radio hole" is apparently smaller than later years, and I have found that the Volvo adapter does not simply go in the hole and connect up. I have found that all the metal "inside" the radio area, has to go away. This will probably involve a metal nibbling tool and possibly a metal bit in a saw. Mine had already been chewed on in the past, and a Sanyo cassette deck was in there. Upon removing it, I found that the recessed material will also have to be removed before that Volvo thing and metal case that holds the radio will insert into the dash. Also the two plastic ears on the Volvo adapter are useless.
All os this may have been covered in an earlier post, but since a lot of people have shown interest in adding a CD,Ipod,etc, player to their trucks, I thought I would comment on my own experience. I will update this string with pictures as I progress.

I have a 70 and I recently put in the kit. I would definitely like to see a picture of what your running into. Maybe someone else has installed one and has some thoughts.

I also just finished up installing my whole stereo in my 69. The volvo kit fit great for mine, even the adapter for the rear screw fit like it was made for the truck. All I did was bend those ears back, which were already bent for some long ago stereo that was installed, then the run a drill in the ears on the dash and the volvo peice and put a coarse stainless screw on each.

Nice truck Darrman, and you are correct Seattle67, our truck dash is a whole different animal in that department. I feel like I have removed more metal from the radio area than my late model Explorer has in the whole interior!
I will post some pictures soon, I hope to get back at it tomorrow.

i put mine in without any cutting the p.o cut the ears off but that was all it was tight but it fit
