will it stop doing this if you hit the solinoid while its still turning the starter? if not then it is a wiring problem. i don't know if we have a wiring diagram for that year of truck. you could ask on http://www.73-79.com or http://fordfzone.com/forums/index.php?act=idx from that site is a link to a bronco site that may be able to help you also.

There have been LOTS of bad new starter solenoids bought/sold... I have had 3 in a row from the parts store... To check if it is the wiring unhook the small Red/blue striped wire on the starter solenoid (will be the small wire closest to the big + terminal. Then just use a jumper wire from the + on the battery to this terminal and it will activate the starter, if the starter still hangs up after removing the jumper wire then the solenoid is bad. If it works as it should then your ignition switch would be the next thing that is the problem.

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

I am in the process of scanning the 1974 wiring diagrams for you, but it's gonna take a couple evenings worth of work. There are 8 pages of diagrams to scan....I got 3 done last night, and will scan another one or two each evening until they're done.
