The three-spoke steering wheel which was used on '67-'70 trucks is the same piece used back through '61, and was also used in '60-'63 Ford Falcons.

Signing on I noticed this tidbit of info. I did not know this however.................................



In my 72 I put a '68 wheel and lacking any horn assy I put one in from a Falcon.

Here is my steering wheel. It is new from Dennis Carpenter. I have shortened the steering for a PS upgrade and powdercoated everything. I am using a floor shift auto trans, so I found the collar for a 4x4 manual so it doesn't have the shifter hole. I did buy a Falcon horn ring off ebay and it works fine. BTW the new steering wheel is about a 1/4 of the original weight, LIGHTER IS FASTER!!!!

It was 1/4 the weight of the original!? How did it feel, construction-wise? Does it feel like it'll hold up? I thought they were being made from the same molds, so is it just a difference in the plastic/material being used to form the wheel? Does it have the inner steel core (seems it would have to)?

I am considering buying one of those wheels, eventually, but I want to be sure it'll hold up. I dunno about lighter being faster when the truck weighs in like a sherman tank, but I guess what I want to know is, does it FEEL like the original?

Your column with the new wheel looks great... I hope to eventually coat mine and replace the wheel just as you have done in my switch to black on the interior.

I cant answer for LA but mine is great. It is very stiff ( I assume due to steel core) and I use it as leverage to pull myself in and out of the truck.

i think everyone grabs the wheel to pull thier selves into the cab and onto the seat.

The after market steering wheel from Dennis Carpenter is fantastic. The accuracy is top notch there is no difference between old and new. I thought that the new wheel was lighter due to newer safety regulations or something. New car steering wheels flex considerably when you slam into it in an accident, I figured the metal tube inside the wheel is probably hollow vs. solid on an original wheel. I am building a resto - rod truck so any weight loss puts a smile on my face. I highly recommend the new wheel. And for those of you that do powdercoat...coating that column piece behind the wheel was very difficult. It wanted to get the raised bubbles like most aluminum does. I PCed the parts like 3 times.
