Starter/Ignition Issues?

Post by jades addiction »

Key position for a Starter to a 1968 f100 .....putting the key in ignition straight up and down is off correct? to the left is accessory and turning the key slightly to the right is what used to be like a contact or on and then finally to far right would crank the starter.
So here's my question and I appreciate all you who answer to fix this! Everything has been replaced except actual wire harness coming outta the dash and firewall (reg. selinoid, batt.starter to selinoid wires etc. etc.Harness from alt to voltage regulator and selinoid) when I put key and turn to right it seems there is no dead space before the starter kicks over, or as soon as I turn the key to the right it already starts to crank over, I haven't started the motor yet until i get some fluids in it after a full rebuild and waiting on a few parts so I can start it up for the 1st time...I just remember before i uninstalled everything that there was a dead space before it started and then release the key to disengage starter once it cranked over and was running.as soon as i turned the key it was cranking over ,but I'm afraid the it wont stop cranking, is anyone familiar with what I'm asking? thanks again...........

yes it is suppose to set up and down to the off position. it should have the on position and then the start position. how far left can you turn it?

When I turn it to the left for accessories it seems to be normal ,it goes to the left the same as it used too. thats what was puzzling me :? Because I never took it out

it could be the wires were put on in the wrong places when you replaced the wiring under the hood. mayeb two of them got mixed up.
