1969 F100 Emergency Flasher wiring question
As usual some things are missing or broke on an old truck. The emergency flasher switch is missing. The wiring and the plug are intact just no switch. This is the version that hides in the glove box and has four wires. One from the flasher, two to the lights and one to the turn indicator switch.
My question is what does the wire to the turn indicator switch do? Checks out as grounded. Can't seem to locate an online wiring diagram that includes the emergency flasher circuit.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
VV

Here is the diagram for them on the main site: http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... _81-85.jpg
The one going to the TSS is for the rear lights to flash, it ties in with the break light wire (810A) if shouldn't be grounded though ... The other 2 are for the right & left front lights...

Re: 1969 F100 Emergency Flasher wiring question
Thanks for the diagram.
I figured out what the problem was with the turn signal and emergency flasher circuits. They all work now.
What can I use as a replacement emergency flasher switch?
Thanks.

Figured out that an inexpensive single pole two throw switch works great.

yes they work and have the same plug moutning the 70-72 switch in the glove box would be fun. it would be easier to run the wires down to the dash and putthe 70-72 style switch in the dash.

Re: 1969 F100 Emergency Flasher wiring question
$25 to $50 just for an emergency flasher switch is highway robbery. My toggle switch solution cost me less than $5 and with a little effort can be mounted anywhere. I re-mounted this in the glove box for no more than I'll ever use it.
Thanks.

Are you sure it wasn't a Double Pole, Single Throw (DPST) switch?
I'm also curious as to how you wired this in if it was a SPDT or even a DPST switch...
Did you use diodes on the front turn signal lines and/or brake line
The way it is wired into the truck harness if you tied both the front wires together (2A & 3A) then when ever you use the turn signals (either side) both the fronts are going to flash... if you tied the brake line in there somewhere then you are going to have lights doing all sorts of stuff depending on if you hit the brakes or use the turn signals...
DPST
SPDT
You could wire up a TPST (3PST) switch with out using diodes real easy...

Re: 1969 F100 Emergency Flasher wiring question
The switch I used is also known to me as a center off switch or a tpst as mentioned. This switch has 6 terminals on the back which gives me the isolation required for the front turn signals which cannot be wired together. Using this switch I wired the feed from the flasher to the center terminal and jumped it to the other center terminal because the switch is isolated internally. On the end of the switch I want hot I attached the left front signal light to one terminal and the rear and right front to the other terminal. The terminals at the other end have no wires attached. This switch fits right in the emergency flasher bracket in the glove box and if I didn't tell you it was different you would not know it. Older Ford truck electrical curcuits tend to fail, usually the white plastic connectors tend to go bad. In this case all were bad and one of the previous owners had been hacking on the electrics maybe trying to find the problems, but instead made things worse making this a bigger puzzle to fix. Everything is working as it should.
I used to use ebay all the time, but backed away two years ago due to all the junk, deadbeats, over commercialization and slow response. I do use ebay as something of a reference guide. I mostly use Craiglist now, it's free and everything I need is close by. There is alot of junk and even more deadbeats, but I don't have to wait 10 days then pay to figure that out.
I did not use diodes or resistors in either the front or rear flasher circuit. Since this is just a simple 12v circuit I am not sure I understand the question.
I think I'm good for now, thanks for the wiring diagram pointer and the switch offer, but I may need it later.
Thanks.
