Fuse block connection fix

Post by skiziks »

Today I pulled out most of the in cab wiring as I prepare to complete the cab swap this next week.

When I was looking at the fuse block I noticed that there is a loose wire connection on the back of the fuse block.

The black wire with the yellow stripe in the bottom center of the picture has come loose from the connector.

Any suggestions on reconnecting this wire?

I am thinking about using a solider less connector and then running a screw into the center of the bridge unless someone else has a better idea.

Hey skiziks

With the fuse block already out, now would be a perfect time to upgrade to blade fuses.
It really isn't that difficult and the cost is minimal...
I made this one for about $25

I bought one large and one small fuse block on ebay, and a couple of inline blade fuse holders at Wal*Mart.
The way it is set up...
The 3 studs you see are the power feeds.
One stud is keyed so it feeds those things I want to have power only with the key on. (6 circuits)
One stud is hot all the time (4 circuits)
The other is just a fused pass through. (for the dash lights and running lights).
Just a little figurin' to know what type of circuit you need for each application.
I added the extra circuits so I could fuse the stereo, and power amp, spot light and camper seperately, but have all the fuses in the same place... it works great.

don't use a screw it will not let the fuse set in the holder any more. solder it or remove it and respread the tab and reinsert the wire into it.

I am going to take KaptnKA's advice and put a blade style fuse block into my highboy.

Now to think about what extra circuits I will need.....

Thanks for the great idea!

i've been thinking about pirating a junk yard newer f150 mid 80'sish's fuse pannel to update then i'd just need to figure out what wire is what and run it.

Well I finished up the fuse block conversion and now I have a new style blade setup.

Tomorrow I will be putting the wiring harness back in the cab and will be that much closer to getting the cab swap wrapped up.

I wrote up this document on how I replaced the fuse block and I included a few pictures too. http://www.crazyschedule.com/Wiring_fuse_block.pdf

Please let me know if there is anything that I missed or that does not make sense so that I can get the document fixed.

I am hoping get this write up over to Keith and maybe get it added as a how to or addition to the bump wiki.

Thanks!

Great post! I love it. I would have gone with a bigger fuse box for future add-ons but your write up is great! Now I want to update mine! Well done sir, well done.

Hey skiziks

Good job... The write up is real good.
The diagram of the 3 sections explains why I had 3 different power feeds...
The only thing I really did different was adding several extra ciruits...
