Post by chirrin »

hi guys i have a 74 ford f100 with a 302 engine, i was having problem with the ignition harness because it was burned and old so i had another car the same year the same averything so i cutted the wires that conect the started selenoid, alternator, and voltage regulator, and it worked and turn on fine but i started to noticed that the turn signal are failing, and the head lights too, and my battery is not charging, but im sure that the alternator is working well because car stays on even thoguh battery is draining or not charging, i have study the diagrams, kind of confusing, but boton line what can make those failures to happen, bad grounding? or the way i put the cables on alternator? i put the turn signals relays new and they still doing the same and get hot, is like they traying to force the blinking
any ideas?

Hey chirrin

Welcome to FORDification.. the best Ford truck forum on the planet.
Thunderfoot is our resident electrical guru. You might wanna shoot him a PM.

It sounds to me like you have multiple problems going on.
If you have burnt wires, then you have a direct short somewhere.
Shorts that burn wires can cause numerous problems, wires with melted insulation can bridge and reak havoc on everything electrical.
If it were me, I'd search the wrecking yards for a complete harness that would match yours, or buy a new one from a good supplier like EZ Wire or Painless if you have the money...

what car did you get the harness off of? and did both the car and the truck have gauges or idiot lights? or did one have gauges and the other one idoit lights? that could be part of the charging problem.
