Dash Guage removal

Post by 72bumbee »

Hello again,
I need to remove the instrument panel cover to find out why my oil pressure and charge guage aren't working. I removed all the front screws and went to pull it out when it stopped short of me being able to reach or see anything. Is there a trick to removing this thing or should it just flop out?? I am also hoping, that I don't need to have a doctorate in mechanical engineering... :?
Thanks again.
Steve

reach around from the passenger side and unscrew the speedometer cable from the back of it.

Thanks, That worked like a charm!
I even managed to get the cable back in after an hour of dinking with it.
Any suggestions as to where a guy could get a new instrument panel and curcuit board unit? It seems none of the reproduction places carry it. Just the bezels. Think the ford garage might still carry that?

compared to the 124 bucks that macs and carpenter are asking. Sounds real good! I ran out to the junk yard and cabbaged one off a wreck, and it still didn't make a difference on the oil guage of charging guage. I really suck at electrical stuff so I hope a new one will remedy this I would rather replace the curcuit board than to go spelunking into the wiring harness!

also, one more question. Look at the picture I originally posted in this thread. Can anyone tell me what that empty knob hole might have been? On my old 67, it was the choke. I would like to put a knob in it if I could keep it authentic.
Thanks again

the three holes on the right for a 67-69 would be for the cigar lighter choke and cargo light. ifit only had two holes it would be lighter and choke. onthe 70-72 the three holes would be for the flasher lighter and the cargo light. on the non cargo light trucks it would have been only the lighter and the hazard switch. sometimes the trucks were drilled for all three holes but didnt have the cargo light installed. it only had a chrome button covering that extra hole. or someone may have put that extra hole in there for a swithc to something else like an ejection seat. ha ha.

Seems my yellow monstrosity used to be a "city of portland" truck. I noticed after I took the camper off it, it had a radio antenna on top that had long since been snapped off. from the looks of it, I would guess that third hole was once utility lights, because there is a chrome swivel headed lamp in the bed.

it could have been. you can get a chrome button to fill that hole or put a switch in there for looks or even hook something up to that switch.

i have been thinking lately that a middle finger that coudl flip up and down in the back window might be soemthing of use to other drivers. a swithc that woul dcontrol it flipping up and down would be great to rig up.
