dash pads

Post by Banjo »

Guys, been gone quite awhile with remodeling an old house and work, anything new on the repro dashpad deal: high dollar from one spot or something that droops and doesn't fit well for more reasonable price? Anyone new on the game with a decent one for decent money.......just got my seat recovered, and I'd like to put a dashpad back in my 68. Banjo.

Guys, maybe I wasn't clear... the dash pads sold by both Dennis Carpenter and JC Whitney are THE AUTHENTIC REPRODUCTION dash pads. They may or may not be made by Dashes Direct, which as noted does not sell direct to customers. I don't know about LMC, but I DO know that BOTH Carpenter and Whitney display this logo on their page for the 67-72 dash pads:

The ONLY way they are allowed to display that logo is if the part is authorized by Ford. If you follow one of the links above, you'll find that members "green1970" and "1971fordcustom" have ordered from Carpenter and Whitney, and both are satisfied. They have included pictures.

yes it includes lmc carpentar enterprices johns f un 100's npd jc whitney everyone of the favorites we usually buy from. the only thing i can think of right now is maybe lmc bought some seconds from them. and that would be why lmc pads didnt fit right on some guys trucks. or it was some kid on the line that day when they wer making them that messed up the spacing on the studs.

I agree 100% I think I'll just buy one next week from JCW and get free shipping... I bought some rocker moldings one time from evilbay NEW, cheep, so I got them Crappiest rockers ever I still have them in a tube some where. I try to buy NOS or OE parts most of the time, even though it sometimes costs more. It just depends on what you like, or what you feel you got a great deal on. I've been the one that pays more because in my book, you always get what you pay for. But then again, who am I to tell you what you should buy. (buy the one from JCW) :shh: just don't say I told you O.K.

How is the JCW at $400+ better than the one at f100.com for $300?

No idea... f100.com SAYS that theirs is the Ford-authorized "made from the original tooling" dash pad, but without a picture, who knows? It could be anything. And trust me, do a search for "California Mustang" to see how bad dash pads can be. A LOT of folks here got snookered on that one, myself included. It was the most pathetic excuse for a dash pad anyone could expect. Although you could call f100.com or take a shot and cross your fingers, I tend to just err on the side of caution. I'd want proof of this:

Just in case anyone DOES want to order from JCWhitney (listed now as $445.99) vs. f100.com, they have an "email only" promo going on...

Free Shipping + 20% off
Use Promo Code BECBFX9
Offer expires 06/29/09

That makes it $368.79 (after $12 "heavy-item" surcharge), with free shipping.

This might be a dumb question but, has anybody ever tried redoing a dash pad using the same method sterio shops use to build fiberglass speaker boxes? It would come out smooth with a kind of custom look to it without the speaker holes in it. Ive thought about trying this but dont want to mess up my dash pad worse than it already is.
