electric aftermarket temperature gauge

Post by threeonthetree »

Hi
I have a 67 with a 352 and standard cab and was wondering if anyone knows if (or how) I could connect an electric aftermarket temperature gauge to the stock sending unit circuit. If possible, I would like to keep the stock gauge operating and also hook up the aftermarket gauge.
thanks

water temp i dont think that can be done because of how the aftermarket one uses a electrode that screws down into the water jacket in place of the sending unit from the original.

Aftermarket electrical gauges uses a temp sender with a different set of parameters (basically a different set of OHM readings) compared to the stock sender.

Just use a tee. Put the stock sender in one side and the aftermarket gauge in the other. I did the same on mine-no need to have a non working factory gauge just because I put an extra one in!

You can't "tee" into the top of the intake manifold.

What most people do is leave the stock sender in the intake and put the aftermarket sender in the t-stat housing.

Another option is to actually run a "tee" inline with the heater hose.

thanks for the ideas. I noticed a plug on the right side of the block. This might work also.
