Just bought new ignition switch on my 72 F100 and wondering how to remove key cylinder from switch body? I assume that the little hole in face of cylinder is to be poked by something small (paper clip?) and pull on key but I thought I would post instead and learn from someone else's mistakes.
Thanks,
FTM

Ya, you poke a clothes pin in there or something similar in diameter, then turn the key far to the left, past the acc position. Should slide out after that.

Re: How to Remove Key Cylinder?
thanks for the quick response. Now I can't get the new one in. Everything is identical but it won't engage enough to pull out key. Everything seems to be lined up fine but flange doesn't seem to be catching enough to turn key or remove key. Hate to force key to turn and have slammed cylinder enough to force in deep enough. Is there a secret to installing also?

you may try putting a slight amount of wd 40 on it with your fingers or something to help it slide. I cant remember how I got it in there, but I dont remember it being that bad.

Re: How to Remove Key Cylinder?
you have to put it in from the top direction and turn it and jiggle it to let it go all the way in. that wire you see inside the switch is what holds the key in once it is all the way in. its kind of a snap ring type of deal. it has to be oriented properly to the key cylinder to let it fully engage. that is why you have to turn the cylinder when it goes in to let it slide in to place with the wire ring inside of there.

Re: How to Remove Key Cylinder?
I wound up giving my new lock cylinder a few taps with a plastic tipped hammer to get it to seat.
