Turn signal switch wiring

Post by 1971ford »

For my '71 race truck i want to take off the turn indicator lever because it is way too easy to hit when offroading.
I have a 3 way switch that has 3 pegs one the bottom, i want to mount this to the center console im making.
How do i wire this 3way switch to be like my turn indicator switch since my truck is still street legal?

So it will be:
Switch to left: left turn indicator
Switch to middle: no turn indicator
Switch to right: right turn indicator

I am guessing that i will forget about the steering column wiring, and tackle it individually. As in i should wire the left turn signal to the left peg, then the right turn signal to the right peg, the power to the middle? I have no idea if that would work or not :?

Thanks :)

Why not just unscrew the original lever, cut it down to about i or 2 inches long, and screw it back in? It would be harder to hit accidentally, but your turn signals would function as before.

:yt: And your wiring idea will not work... the way the TSS works it disengages the brake light side that you are turning on, so there is no way to do it with a toggle switch. If you don't disengage the brake light on that side it will never flash as the brake light will over ride the turn signal.

Do you use the signals a lot when racing?

If not, you could just unscrew the lever while you're off road then put it back on when you need it again.

I was thinking too hard, I will just cut it down, and i will remove it when racing.
