Parking Brake - Hand vs Pedal

Post by 67 Merc 4X4 »

Hello to all,

This is my first posting.
Also, I'd like to congratulate everyone involved for producing such an awesome website.

I've owned my 1967 F250 Merc 4x4 now for 17 yrs and will continue to enjoy until the end of "my" time......or until my 14 year old son takes interest in it in a few years.
I always did like the style of my "hand pull" parking brake.
After doing some research I identified it as an Orscheln hand braking system. I think it's quite unique as I've never come across the likes of it before on a 1967.
I believe pre 67 trucks had this type as my brother's 64 Ford 4x4 (long since sold) had that style.
I also own a 1967 F250 Ford CS 2WD and it has a "foot" pedal parking brake, (seems to be the most common).
Does anybody have any input on this type of brake system.....fordification doesn't make mention of the Orscheln type in it's "Interior" section.
FYI - My Merc was made in July 1967 and my Ford CS was made in April 1967 if that helps.

Thks

this is the first i have heard of them being in our years of trucks. you are right about htem being in a slick 61-66 trucks and maybe earlier years also. it could be a merc thing too. i dont know. here is a web site that may be able to give you some info on the hand brakes. www.fordtruk.com

I've seen one on a '68 250 4x4 so they were used at least through '68 on the heavier trucks...
