alright, tired of neglecting my 71 and want to drive but the blinkers don't work. awhile back, Keith had said it was probably the blinker switch in the steering column that is broke. it is very loose and i have an extra one to use. so, how do i replace it. does the wireharness coming out of the column need to be removed as well? if so, what is the tool i need to depin the wires? thanks.
oh, it also has a 4 spoke grant steering wheel on it. is there any special instructions for this type or can i use any grant instructions for this?

Re: Blinkers
i dont think the grant steering wheel will have any impact on how this comes out and goes back in. i think the wires for it are just a plug in thing to your old system and i dont think you need to make any modification to the switch or its wiring because of that wheel.
at the bottom of the column . the iwres that come out of it will ahev one or two plugs on it depnding on the year of column wiring you have in that truck. 71 would have only had one plug.
you have to remove the wires from that plug going to the column. some guys just cut them off. i wouldnt. all you need is a small straight pic to get the terminal ends to release from the plug.
one that is done and the steering wheel is off. remove the switch from the steering column plate. tie a piece of string to the wires at the bottom of the column. then pull the whole mess up and out of the column. leave the string in the column. remove the string fromt he old wires. tie it to the new wires on the new switch. pull the string back down itno the column with the wires. it is a smll hole so it is a slow job to do. reattach the swithc to the plate inside the column. put the wires back into the plug that came off of the old swithc wires at the bottom of the column reinstall the steering wheel.
*notes* mark the wire position in the plug at the bottom of the column to make sure the new wires go in the right places.
