Door panels and speakers

Post by cdeal28078 »

My truck is a 71 Sportcustom. The original door panels were the black vinyl covered ones with the plastic chrome around it. I took those out several years ago and put in the metal ones from I guess a Custom truck. Today I added the chrome piece around the outside. I didn't think my door had the holes for it but when I removed it t replace my speaker I saw that the driver's side does at least.
One question I have is this, I have seen vinyl door panels that are not large enough to cover the entire door panel. Do this fit the metal panels while using the outer chrome like I have? I have attached a picture of what I am doing.
I always thought a regular 6x9 speaker wouldn't fit the doors. I had an old set of slim line 6x9's in my doors for years. I sold my Bronco and pulled my Infinity's from it and tried them in my doors and they fit with lots of room.
I also added some sound deadening to my door a friend gave me that is from the BMW plant his son works at. it is about 1/8" thick and peel and stick. Going to add it to my roof when I pull the headliner to clean it up.
That new speaker sure sounds good now. The sound deadening seems to make a difference in that anyway
Thanks
Oh, I got 2 arm rests from an 87 Ford van and 2 window cranks from a mid 70's LTD. The cranks have a chrome bezel next to the panel you can barely see but I like it. Adds a little class. lol

yes the smaller panels will fit onto the metal panel with the chrome around it. the metal panels with the vinyl smaller panels on them had small holes drilled in them for the vinyl panel to attach to them.

Thanks Fordman. I have seen them for sale online and in magazines several times and couldn't figure out how they were supposed to work.
What model of truck used those? I know a 71 SportCustom and that is it so far as options. lol
I have had this truck about 36 years. My dad bought her new and gave her to me when I was 15 after he bought a 76 Ford van.
I know her inside and out but not much about other models.

My '70 Sport Custom had the smaller vinyl door panels with the larger surrounding "beauty ring...My '72 explorer's vinyl door panels were larger---the size of the beauty ring on the old '70....
