I recently purchased an aftermarket Autometer fuel gauge for my '68, The same one mentioned here" http://www.fordification.com/fuel-sending-units.htm
The plan is to remove the driver side "saddle tank" and replace it with the factory auxiliary in frame tank out of my '72. Now the '68 is a strip model so there is only one tank from the factory so I purchased the aftermarket gauge. The '72 I took everything off of for the swap had a bad gauge switch so I thought it would be easier to install another as the wiring harness might be different and I didn't save it from the '72. My question is after reading the above article, do I need to use an IPVR with this new gauge or is ready as is? There are 3 connections on this gauge and only 2 on our trucks factory gauge.

Re: Fuel gauge
since the instrument panel voltage regulator gives voltage to the original fuel gauge. i would say yes you have to hook it into the new gauge. i don't know about what the wiring diagram that came with your gauge says though.

Re: Fuel gauge
Yeah, i experimented to day and used another IPVR and hooked it up to test it and it worked. I also calibrated the sending unit so it should be ready when the tank is installed into the truck. Thanks for the quick reply. The factory gauges have a narrow sweep that calibrating a sending unit to it is next to impossible. With the aftermarket one it was pretty simple.
