Any of you sparkies know if an '89's digital dash has seperate backlighting for the display?

I ask cuase at night with the headlights on you can see all three sets of gauges but the fuel guage is dimmer than the other two.

during the day you can only see the speedo/odo/tach. and the temp/fluids guages.

don't want to pull the cluster out and risk breaking it or tearing a wire if it doesn't.

I don't know for sure on the 89's, but I do believe so. My 85 T-Bird only has the digital speedo, and it has seperate lights for every thing back there. I just got a 92 T-Bird Sport the other day, but it is all analog. Might try over at TCCoA and see if there is some info. I will look around there later if I get a chance, I just found it when I got my 92 so I don't know for sure what is over there yet.

found out it does.

they still use 194's and something smaller than that but still a wedge base bulb for the dummies.

to get to the cluster backlights you have to pull the cluster take the clear cover off then take out 6 tiny screws and then pull it apart, then pull the fuel computers master circuit out of the way, it's held there with one tiny screw and two plastic clips built into the cluster body.

then R&R the burnt bulbs.

I replaced the two burnt ones for now but have decided it is one of those get them all when one or two go out.

the rest of the PCB is flexable like in the truck. even the plug is about the same size.

Good info, should help me get the cluster out of the '92 in the next few weeks. I found it only has one working dash light.

yipes. coming out is easy, its the going back in i think i turned the hazzards on and off twenty times and also got stuck becuase of needing to reconnect the harness to it on both ends to get the whole thing to work. by then it wedges between the lower edge of the dash and the top edge too.

Sounds like it will be fun, I don't plan to drive mine yet as I still have to get it registered and fingure out why the brakes are so stiff.
:hj:
Been reading a little here and there on the ABS system, seems I got the Teves mark 2 ABS in there. I may wait a while before attempting that, thinking on putting the Bird in the shop to get the ABS checked out after it gets tags and then figure out the rest of the little things it needs, and I still got a few other cars needing attention first. But it was great to drive it home from the towing yard, can't wait for another spin in the Bird. Almost as much fun as taking the '72 out.

I was burning and turning at take off no matter what i did.
