Re: Wire for radio?
i understand the need or want to get the job done sometimes. as far as disconnecting the heater wire i woudlnt have if thats what you did .i went and drug out a harness to look at. the heater iwre is brown i am sorry i got that wrong. the radio runs off of its own fused wire. the factory hook up is a black wire. with an inline fuse. it plugs into the three socketed female plug on the drivers side of the instrument cluster. the gas guage cargo light and door dome light swithces may also get power from the same plug.that plug is a ignition on and off plug. it is the only 3 female plug on the main harness in that location. it is hard soemtimes to remember everything i am sorry i gave you the wrong information. if you can put back your wire with a good connection do it . clean the fuse holder and replace the fuse that should fix the heater and not give you a mess of cut wires under the dash. a messed up wiring system can give you the "f " it attitude later in your history with the truck. just run your new inline fused wire to the 3 pronged plug behind and on the drivers side of the instrument cluster. that will give you power to the radio with the switch on.

If you are going to "rig" wiring make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy at all times.

Its not negative 20, but it was an example. I had to do what I have too, but when my new fuse box comes in, I can do it right. Thanks fordman, mistakes happen, I will look there. If i cant find it or get it right, Ill just run an inline fuse from the accessory.
Re: Wire for radio?
Well, the heater wire wasn't running any power, and I don't know how to get a new wire, in the spot behind the fuse. Because you cant really just "work" it in there.

Re: Wire for radio?
man i forgot about that plug, i know my fuel gauge has been plugged in there.
and the radio is too, i need to remember it for the next time i wire up an i- switch connected accessorie.
you should see my wiring for the radio amp and cb as well as the tach. i have 2 or 3 y[ connections made with shrink tube style bullet connections running off the radio connection. and it works with everything on it isn't enough to blow the fuse. and all my accessories have their own inline fuse to.

When I install my power door locks, that's the wire I plan to tap.towtruckerfour wrote: The cigarette lighter wire is constant 12v regardless of ignition.

Re: Wire for radio?
i have a plan for taping into switched 12v for power windows, if i get some replacement window tracks for the cougar i might just refurb the ones i have now and adapt them to the truck.
these look to have a motor driven version of our window regulator. just shortened and moved lower and to the senter of the door.
