I was wondering that too.

I would think that there would be a problem with possible electrical shorts if they were made of metal.
They would have to be flexible, yet stiff enough to trip the switch.
It would seem with the advances in technology, they could design a cam with metal inside, coated with nylon or other non-conductive material.

they could make them with the metal tangs so they dont break off the canceling part. but then they might not need to make any more becuase they would break.
