Part Name?
Does anyone know the name of the piece that goes under the dash on the passenger side that contains the two heater vents and a wood panel? I've seen it pictured in a catalog or two but when I called on it they didn't know the name and they didn't carry it!? I have a 68 F100

Re: Part Name?
It's called an air conditioner.
Those two vents are air conditioning vents.
It's a whole assembly, and it replaces the fresh air heater.
If you only have a heater on your truck, there is no panel like you describe.
There is, however, a trim panel that came on the Ranger XLT that is woodgrain and mounts under the dash, but it doesn't have any vents in it.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak

Re: Part Name?
So it's an A/C!? I was thinking that it was a heater vent. Well I don't have A/C so I guess I don't need that piece or can A/C be installed after the fact? I don't really need it out here though. I'm more concerned about my drum brakes and their stopping power since it's a daily driver. Power booster or disks?

Re: Part Name?
Either factory air or dealer-installed air would be mounted under the dash. There were some aftermarket units that resembled the Ford units.
It's not a big deal to install A/C. You just have to have all of the parts. I see them often on ebay.
As for brakes, minimum upgrade is to power, suggested upgrade is power disc brakes.

Re: Part Name?
Well, you must have had A/C at some time. Someone down the line probably pulled the compressor. Not uncommon for the lazy.
Drum brakes work fine when properly maintained. You're going to notice more improvement adding the power booster. Which is a good place to start anyway, add the power brakes and then add the discs later if you still feel that you need them.

Re: Part Name?
ToughOldFord, from the sound of his post, I don't think his truck has had air on it.
It sounds to me like he saw it in some photos and thought, "that looks neat" and wanted to get one for his truck.

Re: Part Name?
70_F100 You're partially correct. A co-worker of mine was looking through a NPD book with me and convienced me that it was missing from my truck when he saw the picture. I guess that's what I get for listening to a guy who drives a chevy! It's a learning process and I have a lot to learn. ![FORDification Rocks! :fr:](./images/smilies/icon_FORDification.gif)

Re: Part Name?
yeah a/c would be nice. but that will have to come after the brakes, lowering, rims, tires, some light body work, paint, spray on bedliner, bed cover, trim, weather strip, glass, seatcovers etc. Damn, I need a second job anybody hiring!!

I'm still looking for two NOS rocker moldings.
Once I find them, I'll start tearing mine down.
No need to start until you have everything you already know you'll need!!!

Re: Part Name?
Do you have the factory heater box? or could that be the part your buddy told you was missing? that had two connection points for the heater hoses to go into the dash.

Re: Part Name?
Rjewkes, reread his original post. I think you missed part of it.
He said he was missing the part with two vents and woodgrain, which would be the air condition.
Nothing to do with heater hoses, which you wouldn't see from inside the cab.
