battery losing charge

Post by bigredball90 »

Whenever the truck is on the battery charges fine but when I turn it off it slowly loses power. Ive checked all the connections and everything is tight but im not sure were to go from there except maybe the battery is dying but it is only 3 or 4 months old. Any ideas?

its a leak in a circut soem place. you'll have to chace it down. the first way to start is to unhook the negative battery terminal. and put a test light in between the post and the cable. if the light lights up you have a leak or short. if the light does light up. remove one fuse at a time until you find which circut the leak is in. then you get to pollow that circut until you find the leak.

Hey man, mine ended up being the alternator. Theres a part in there, it gets stuck. But i went through like 8 voltage regulators, rewired everything, new battery, it ended up being the alternator and the starter together.

Turns out the alt was over charging about 14.8 volts and the battery was out of water. Filled the battery I believe it will hold a charge ill find out when I try to go home :) Im getting a new alt tomorrow and hope it works better than the last 5...

i was told the other cay how to fix up a chebby alt to be a one wire if it has the plug and one wire on the back. it was real simple. basically you just runn all three wire together sort of. you have to jump both of the spade terminals together. and then run one wire from the spade terminals to the main power lug on the back and then hook up your one wire to that lug. and you were done. i dotn know how to change our wiring to work with that. but i think some ones knows surely.

Yea there are ways to convert chevy alts to yours, I dont like 1 wire ones. I got mine at autozone. Its a rebuilt one, but it does its job and looks good.

did you have a look at the diagrams to see if the wires were right? that could be an easy way to tell. http://www.fordification.com/tech/schematics_h.htm
