DO NOT CUT HOLES IN THE DOOR! If you feel you must cut holes in something cut holes in the door panels. Also some people have used the "pod" kind that have a bracket to mount to the bottom of the dash and hang down from there, or you could just get the "pod" kind and put velcro strips on the bottom and attach to your carpet by the seat that way.

I don't like the headliner ones as much, mainly because I have crappy speakers with weak magnets.

I had some 6x9's in my bump. They go in a speaker box that sets right under the front seat facing forward..for me they sounded great, but I also had an amp hooked up with them...

I have a 6x9 in each door panel and two 6 inch speakers in the head liner. It sounds really good.

I have a 6x9 in each door. I didn't cut the doors. There is plenty of room for 6x9's by just cutting the panels. I went with the metal panels with the chrome trim a couple months ago. I did just have the metal panels. Sounds great with plenty of bass for my 46 year old ears.
I mounted the Sony CD player using the stock radio bezel years ago. I just had to clearance the opening and hang the rear of the stereo from the stud under the dash. Works great

I got a 8" sub in each door, 6" on each kick panel where the vents were, and 2 tweets in the dash corners. Amp and cd changer are under the center console (bucket seats.)

Most people aka previous owners cut holes for 6x9's in the lower part of the door, but I rather like where fordboy69 has his.

6 speakers, wow that must sound awsome. Do the subs rattle the doors badly?

The only rattle is from the stainless trim around the door panels, they are missing some clips. That's an easy fix though once I start redoing my interior next year....

move you tank out of the cab and you'll have lots of room for what ever you want, its a little work but well worth the benefit.

You can check out my pics from the site in my signature. I got 5.25 in the doors and a CD player. A little cutting, but hey, I plan to keep the ol rustbucket, so I better make it suit me. Even if I have to cut it up to do so!

My truck had speakers in the door panels as pictured above, but the windows wouldn't roll all the way down.
I took them out and set them in the floor for now.

If you plan to go that route, make sure the speakers you select for that location don't mount too deep or they will interfere with window operation.
