It won't really work well with our trucks, because the latch is on the hood, and not on the radiator support, so the release cable would have to run up under the hood. Ford trucks did incorporate a remote hood release starting in '73 though, but of course they had to switch the position of the latch and the catch. Fitting a dentside remote hood release really wouldn't be too involved, especially if you already had a '73-up radiator support, but you'd also have to widen the latch hole in the upper valance panel and you'd have to do some modifications to the hood to get that latch mechanism installed.

Of course, if you wanted to make it almost a bolt-on, you could get a dentside radiator support and hood...then you'd simply need to modify the upper valance panel for latch clearance.

Don't hold your breath that your parts truck has one....only the high-end trucks got them by special order. Whenever they show up on E-bay they tend to go for many $$$. There is a standard non-locking version and another one that uses a key to lock the pull handle.

Are they more rare than bucket seat rails?

I don't know if "rare" would be be accurate, but it's definitely not something you see very often. I've got one setup for my truck that I got from E-bay for possible future use, but I've never see one in a junkyard truck. When they do show up on E-bay, the bidding on the whole setup will often reach $75-$100.

I have seen more in the Broncos for some reason. I don't really see the point beside just being able to say you have one. All it will get you is a broken vent window or side window. If they can't get the hood up they will just pry out the vent, breaking it in the process, reach in and pull the handle or cut the cable. Or screw up a hood that is hard to replace by prying up on it. They will get in. I think when I can afford it I will spend the money on an alarm that tells me someone is messing with my truck. Then I can load them up in the a&& with some bird shot.
I leave my truck unlocked most of the time for this reason. I replaced 3 vent windows in my teens from people stealing my CB's. I just don't leave anything in there a thief would waste his time on by stealing. He'll get my stereo but that is easy to replace.

Would have been the same here but all times I was in a parking lot away from home. Never had ANY trouble at home. Most of my neighbors are retired nice people. Happens here I won't be using a bow. Bird shot works very well. lol
