I've Got Gauge Problems

Post by Jay's67F100 »

So here's my situation, recently all my gauge lights except the turn signal lights have blown. I've replaced them twice and after about 3 times of use they all blow. Also my fuel gauge has been stuck at 1/4 tank, I ran out of gas the other day because of that. Luckily I was near a gas station when it happened. It says 1/4 tank whether the key is on or not. I put about 8 gallons in it and still says 1/4 tank.

I checked the ground wire coming from the harness and it looked okay. Could it be the Instr. Panel Volt Regulator? The other gauges work okay though.

I don't know about the guage lights but there's information on your gas guage at: http://www.fordification.com/tech/fuel- ... -units.htm

Thanks! That helps for the gas gauge issue.

Check your alternator voltage output, if it is putting out to much voltage (over 14.5-15V) it could be blowing your lights... Not sure what else could cause them to blow unless just faulty lights. :2cents:

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

So far I've replaced the bulbs twice, with what ever Sylvania Light Bulbs they sell at Kragens. I'll check the voltage coming from the alternator, thanks!

I'll have to double check, I just went by the suggested replacement bulb from Sylvania.

Okay here's a wierd one for ya, so my gauge lights have been out. On Halloween nite I went for a ride in the truck, when I turned on the lights no gauge lights as usual. When I released the e brake the lights came on!!! :? After a bit of driving, maybe 3 minutes, they turned off again. So the next time I came to a stop I put the e brake on then off, they came back on! Only until I went from Park to Drive, they shut off again. My guess is there's a short some where? I've tried to duplicate it since with no luck.

Check the Ground wire connection for the instrument panel, it is behind the panel on the steering column brace.
