It's a simple fix....you simply need to replace the turn signal cam under the steering wheel, available in the Help section at most auto parts stores.

Here's how that works:
There's a clip-on eccentric on the back side of the steering wheel:

This eccentric pushes on the plastic arms of the turn signal cam to return it to the center position when you straighten the wheel out after making your turn. However, the plastic gets brittle with age and the arm breaks off, meaning the eccentric has no way of turning the signal switch off.

Depends on how often you use your turn signals!
You have to remember that the plastic is probably the original, so it' 40 +/- years old. It's bound to happen. I'll bet a new one will outlast a lot of other things on your truck.

Re: is there anyway to fix turn signal return?
I replaced my TS cam this summer and it was easy to do. But, I had to bend the contact wires on the new piece
so that the switch would work properly. It takes a few tries to get right but once you get past that it should work
fine. Some folks don't want to go through that and just buy a new switch, though they cost a lot more than just
the cam.

Not true. Mine work without problems. Like mentioned above, replace the cam and you're good to go. B y the way, it is "our" not "are".austin wrote:...

sideoilerfe, You must be the 10% !!
I pulled a mint turn signal cam out of my 69 parts truck. It lasted about 2 blocks. I have trained myself to turn the signal lights off over the years. I dont need a cam![Laughing lol](./images/smilies/icon_laughing01.gif)

Re: is there anyway to fix turn signal return?
truthfully these cmas even the ford original parts break off after a few uses. atleast mine did and it was a nos part back in 1982 it snapped right off in just a few days. so that tells you how long i have had my hand hanging out the window.
