new radio removal and install

Post by 1968Ranger »

I have just gotten my intake manifold and a 4 barrel carb put in my 1968 f100. I was wondering the best way to remove and install radio head unit. When i take the face plate off, the old radio(stock) and the brackets where the knobs are make it impossible to take the radio out. Please advise.

You will probably have to remove the 4 barrel intake manifold... since it is larger than the two barrel one, so there will be room to remove the radio head knobs. Then the faceplate can be removed. Unless you plan to replace the head with a flat face, no knobs, you will have to wait to reinstall the 4 barrel manifold after you reinstall the radio faceplate and knobs. Hope this helps and good luck.

This message appears at the top of each topic. The message is WELL WORTH heeding.

4) As a courtesy to the readers, spelling and punctuation is something you probably should try to keep as accurate as possible. While a misspelled word or two is no catastrophe, if every other word is so misspelled that a reader has to study it to make out what it's supposed to be, chances are he's going to give up and move on to the next post. Also, a run-on sentence, which actually might be two or three (or more) sentences just spilling out onto the next with no breaks is equally hard to follow. Remember...PERIODS and COMMAS are your friends!...plus they're make it more likely somebody will respond to your post, since they're not such a chore to read.

Just have fun, behave yourself (for the most part) and enjoy being a part of a great group!

You will need to remove the glovebox insert. It's held on by some screws around the edges. When you open the glove box door you will see them
Remove the radio knobs, then remove the screws in the upper part of the radio bezel. Remove the bezel. There is a strap on the back of the radio holding it in place as well. Reach through the glovebox opening and unfasten the strap from the back of the radio.
With all fasteners removes from the radio and the shafts, push the radio backwards and remove it through the glovebox opening. You may have to remove the defroster hose from the defroster outlet on the passenger side as well.

Ok guys and fellow truck nuts,
I now see why my young son asked me for my user name and password. He has shown an increased interest in the "ole truck" sitting out in the driveway. Due to his persistance we are now in "fixer up mode"

I gave him free reign to tear the inside apart and do whatever he wanted to do. His first choice is the radio. He decided to come online for some advice. I like to let him try and figure these things out on his own through research, instead of asking me. (heck I probably dont know anyway).

Thanks to those who offered help. His name is Ben and he may be back. Help where you can
Mike

:wel: , Ben.

My first piece of advice is to take your time and proof read your posts.

It's hard enough to diagnose and advise people as to how to resolve a problem/issue they may have without actually being there.

It's ten times harder when you don't explain your problem fully, and even worse when your posts are not clear.

There is a LOT of knowledge available here, and you'll definitely get the answers you need.

Note to younger generations: Us old folks DO NOT speak 'text pages'. :nono:

In our school years you HAD TO spell everything correctly and use punctuation correctly or you got held back and had to repeat the grade!

Happy to help, but ask clear questions and you will get clear answers.
